DATABANKS list of names

The MESSAGES databank is a collection of personal messages posted between 1820 and 1837 in different Quebec newspapers and transcribed by HISTOQUEST. It mostly contains information on Irish immigrants seeking the whereabouts of members of their family.

HISTOQUEST will send you the following information pertaining to William McNamara :

"Information wanted . Wm McNamara, a native of the town of Lisburn, Ireland left his native country about the year 1817, and is supposed to have settled in New York, Philadelphia or Baltimore. Any intelligence respecting him addressed to James Phelan, 63 St.Paul Street, Montreal, L. C. will be thankfully received. Editors of papers in the above mentionned cities would confer a favor by inserting this advertisement. 1829."

The NEWSPAPERS databank contains names of individuals extracted from English language newspapers published in Montreal and Quebec City between 1820 and 1837. They are mostly marriage and death notices but there are also arrest warrants, legal announcements, accidents reports, etc.

The REBELLION databank contains the names of individuals active in the alliance or opposition movements to the Patriotes in the counties of Missisquoi, Shefford and Stanstead between 1834 and 1837. The Patriotes or Reformists participated in a popular movement calling for changes to the political, social and economic situation in the British colonies. Their opponents, the Loyals or Bureaucrats preferred the status quo.
